Lewis and Harris can be reached by ferry or by air.
There are three ferry routes which run to the island. All three are run by Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac):
- Ullapool to Stornoway (main town on Isle of Lewis, 40 minutes north of Cosy Cottage)
- Uig (Isle of Skye) to Tarbert (largest village on Isle of Harris, 40 minutes south of Cosy Cottage)
- Berneray (linked to Isle of North Uist) to Leverburgh (small village on Isle of Harris, 75 minutes south of Cosy Cottage)

This opens up a large range of options for a holiday to Gravir:
- Return travel on either the Ullapool-Stornoway route or the Uig-Tarbert route
- An Island Hopscotch ticket, allowing you to travel on the following three ferries: from Ullapool to Stornoway; stay in Cosy Cottage, then leave from Harris to Skye; you can then travel onwards from Armadale in South East Skye to Mallaig on the Scottish mainland (the last of these is optional, you can also travel from Skye to the mainland via the toll-free Skye Bridge)
- As above, but in reverse. i.e. travel to Skye (either by the bridge or via the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale); travel through Skye then take the ferry from Uig to Tarbert in Harris; stay in Cosy Cottage; then, when leaving, travel from Stornoway to Ullapool.
- Or, by using the ferry from Berneray to Leverburgh, you can include many combinations of Lewis, Harris, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist, Barra or Skye in your plans (travelling in either direction). Click here for the full list of “Island Hopscotch” ticket options!
