Once you have reached Lewis or Harris, the Cottage can be reached by the local bus service. Service W10 runs along the main spine of the island between Stornoway and Harris. This connects with Service W9, which operates between the South Lochs turnoff at Balallan and Gravir. Please note that some of the buses need to be booked in advance, see the timetable for details. There are also numerous taxi services available on the island such as Alba Taxis, Stornoway Taxis and Quick Cabs.
Lewis is a fantastic destination for cyclists! If you’ve not brought your own, cycles can be hired from AD Cycle Centre or Bike Hebrides. The Hebridean Way Cycling Route goes all the way from Vatersay, south of Barra, up to the Butt of Lewis. Many beaches, lochs and historic sites can be reached as day trips from the cottage. And the Cromore & Calbost Cycling Route even goes right past the front door!
Car Hire is available from Stornoway Car Hire, Lewis Car Rental, Car Hire Hebrides and Isle of Harris Car Hire. You can normally make arrangements to collect a hire car from Stornoway Airport or Ferry Terminal. Some Car Hire firms also allow a hire car to be collected from Tarbert Ferry Terminal.
